The following series of charts contain the most accurate information Guild has available for discerning the date of manufacture of Guild guitars by serial number. Through the years, (as well as through several different owners of the Guild Guitar company), some historical documentation has unfortunately been lost or destroyed. For serial numbers that dont fall on this chart or for specific parts for your vintage Guild Guitar you can contact Hans Moust via his website. Please note that if your serial number does not fall on the dating charts on this website it was most likely build on or after 1999 until the Westerly shop closed in middle of 2001.

For general questions about Guild Guitars please register and post your question on the Lets Talk Guild Forums. There are many knowledgeable members on these boards that can answer most if not all of your questions.

If you are in the market to purchase an older Guild Guitar I would recommend checking the following sites on a regular basis:

http://www.ebay.com
http://www.craigslist.com
http://www.gbase.com
http://letstalkguild.com (under 'for sale' section)

Quick Buyer Tips
1. Deal locally if possible. This allows you to personally inspect the instrument before purchasing.
2. Condition is always subjective. Try to understand how the seller rates his or her guitars.Numbers
3. The best deals are almost always found on craigslist and ebay. If you have the time to wait this is almost always the best option.
4. Gbase is a good resource if you cant find what your looking for on ebay or craigslist. Prices will be slightly higher on gbase when compared to ebay or craigslist. This adjustment can be anywhere from 25 - 50 percent and sometimes even more.
5. Make sure your seller knows how to properly ship a guitar. A lot of damage can be caused to your instrument if improperly packaged.
6. Good things come to those who wait. If you cant find what your looking for just remember to keep at it by checking these websites on a regular basis.

This wonderful Guild D-35 dreadnought guitar was made in the fabled Westerly, Rhode Island, plant in 1977, judging from its serial number (151943) and the Guild website. It was a substantial all-solid-wood upgrade from the more common D-25 until it was discontinued in 1987. As such, this particular guitar has been dominating lesser instruments for 38 years, and the resonance of its aged woods will only improve with its new generation of players. Its classic good looks make it stand out in a crowd, but it's the huge sound that will make other musicians turn around to check it out.

The Guild D-35 has a solid spruce top and solid mahogany back, sides, and neck. The body is fully bound in black, top and back, and it has a large tortoiseshell pick guard, a rosewood bridge with black pins, and a multi-stripe inlaid rosette. The 14/20 fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay ends in a mahogany headstock with three-per-side chrome tuners and the screened Guild logo.

Just cause 3 female mod. There are several cosmetic items to report: there is some finish 'crazing,' and as might be expected after 38 years, there are a number of dings visible in the top and sides, and some slight buckle bruises on the back. There is also a repaired 2' crack just below the bridge, but relatively little fret wear, even in the first three frets. The overall finish is still in very good shape on the back and sides, and the neck is straight, the top is flat, and the sound features the resonance which one expects from quality seasoned solid tonewoods.

While this is a truly attractive instrument, it is not collectably 'perfect;' it's a real Guild, 'Made to be Played', and it has been making music and turning heads for more than a generation. It has been thoroughly checked out and set up by a professional luthier, the action is medium at a hair under 4/32' at the 12th fret low E, and it's ready to beat up on some banjo and fiddle players. Lord willing and the creek don't rise, it will pass into the hands of a player able to make music and turn heads for a generation or two to come.

The included vintage hard shell case is clearly not original and is in good but not great condition, including a number of dings around the outside edges and so on. However, the latches work fine, the plush lining is soft and odor-free, and structurally it is solid. It fits like a glove and is an excellent vintage complement for this vintage guitar—and of course it offers more than adequate protection.

Guild Serial Number Decoder

I have made every effort to describe and illustrate this vintage guitar and case with scrupulous accuracy. Its return will not be accepted unless it can be shown that it was egregiously misrepresented in this listing. Please check out the pictures and ask any questions you might have before offering to purchase this fine instrument.
